2017 MEXT Teachers’ Scholarship to Study in Japan | ![]() |
The Government of Japan seeks candidates for its 2017 Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) Scholarship Programme for teachers’ training in Japan.
Eligibility Requirements:

Documents to be submitted *Submit both the original and a photocopy as per the Guidelines
Hard copy submissions are to be made at the Embassy’s reception by 17 February, 2017.
Those who pass the initial screening will be called in for a written exam on the English language and an interview with the selection committee.

Eligibility Requirements:
- South Sudanese national Cf. Candidates of other nationalities shall submit applications at Japan’s diplomatic missions in their home countries.
- In-service teacher with more than 5 years of teaching experience at primary, secondary or teacher-training institutions in South Sudan
- Graduate from a university or a teacher-training institution
- 34 years of age or younger as of 1 April, 2017
- Physically and mentally sound
- Willing to learn the Japanese language
Terms of Scholarship
- Recipients will attend university for non-degree, post-graduate studies. Candidates’ preferences on the field of study and the host school, expressed at the time of application, will be considered.
- Fees pertaining to the entrance exam, matriculation, and tuition at the host university, and fares for round-trip tickets will be covered by the Government of Japan.
- Monthly allowance of JPY 143,000 will be provided from October 2017 through March 2019.
- No extension or enrollment in degree-earning programmes will be permitted. Scholarship recipients will take an oath on other regulations as well prior to their dispatch.

- Transcript from the last school of attendance
- Diploma from the last school of attendance – photocopies to be attested to by the school authority
- Proof of Employment
- Letter of Recommendation from a supervisor
- Three mug-shot photos, 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm
